Kendyll went to see the Nutcracker with Grand, the Becker Girls and the Stephenson Girls. She had never been to a ballet. She had a wonderful time and felt so grown up. Grand said her eyes were glued to the stage the whole time. I'm so glad she had the opportunity to join the families for a fun girls night out

Annual Christmas Train

Sunday evening we had such a fun time at the Annual Metrolink Christmas Train. We arrived about an hour early and ate dinner with 4 other families taligate style. The local fire department collected toys for The Sparks of Love and a local restaurant, Olas, provided hot chocolate to everyone. When the train arrived the crowd gathered around the stage car and Santa and the gang put on a little show. After the show, a quartet sang a few Christmas Carols then it was off to Moorpark for the next show. We have gone to the show for the past 6 years. It is one of our Christmas traditions.

Our Visit with Mr. and Mrs. Claus

Last Saturday we enjoyed our 9th annual visit with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. We first went when Kasey was 1. It is so neat having all of the pictures in a row with the same Mr. and Mrs. Claus and seeing an additional child every few pictures.

I came downstairs from putting the little ones to bed and I found Elway laying cozily on the hearth. I couldn't believe he wasn't burning as there was a fire in the fireplace. He stayed there even after I took the picture. It was funny to see him jump a few times as the logs shifted as they burned.

Kendyll was in a play today at school. It was called Turkeys on Strike. It was darling. She played an arbitrator and a pilgrim. She did a great job. Her voice was loud and clear and boy does she have a beautiful singing voice. I got many compliments from other parents.

The Birthday Surprise

On Kolby's actual birthday (a Friday) Ken got him dressed and into the car. Kole thought he was going to school. The big surprise was that Ken had taken the day off and took Kole to Disneyland, yes, just the 2 of them. They spent all day and night (until 9) roaming Disneyland and California Adventure. Where ever Kolby wanted to go they went. Ken said he walked about 20 miles (good thing Kolby had a stroller) as Kolby would choose a ride in Tomorrowland and then the next one on the other side of the park. Ken never said a word, Kolby was king! Both boys had a great time and came home dead tired.

Kolby turned 5 on November 14th. He chose to celebrate his big day with the The Chuckmeister! He and 15 of his friends (and their families) ate pizza, played games and had yummy cake at Chuck E Cheese's. We all had a great time.

For our October MNO we went to Harley's bowl. We had such a great time. We laughed so hard, acted like dorks and some of us drank a bit too much. After bowling we went to dinner at Yolanda's. I love the group of gals that are part of the MNO. I always look forward to the next month's activity.

We met my sister and her family at Disneyland on Oct 2 and 3rd. We went to California Adventure on Thursday and Disneyland on Friday. It was so awesome to see the parks through the eyes of the kids. All of them really enjoyed being together.

Our dad gave us passes for Christmas and it was great to be able to use them together.

Mom's Trip to Washington (Alone)

My visit with Cousin Michele

The last week of September I flew to Seattle for a few "days off". I landed on Monday and Dar met me at the airport. We ran a few errands and went home to see her family. She has a Kendyll too. That's where our sweetie got her name. That night we went to a great Washington restaurant, The Keg. We always try to eat there when we visit. The following day I got to ride along as she did the school drop off and went to lunch. That afternoon I drove to Snohomish to visit my cousin. She and her love Don have lived up there for a good while. My aunt Sandy (her Mom) lives there too. Aunt Sandy made me a great bowl of chili and we got to catch up for a few hours. On Wednesday we dropped off the kids and headed into Seattle. We went to a great spa and had massages, then did a bit of shopping. We went back to our hotel for Happy Hour and then rode the monorail to the Key Arena to see "the one and only" Neil Diamond. We had a blast...danced, sung off key and shed a few tears remembering my beautiful Mom. (she loved Neil). I flew home rejuvenated on Thursday and was so happy to see my kids and Ken.

We were in line to ride on the new Toy Story Ride. It is so fun. Obviously, it is 3-D.

Caryn and I decided to take the kids on a surprise trip to Disneyland on the day before school started. We loaded up the car and headed to McDonald's to get a healthy breakfast for the ride to Anaheim. While we were in the drive thru Will threw up. (YUCK). So we took him and Caryn back home and the rest (Emily, Kate, Kasey, Kendyll, Kolby and I) continued to Disneyland. We actually went to California Adventure. Boy, did we have a great time. It was a nice way to end a fantastic summer.

Soccer Kids

Kendyll and Kolby are playing soccer this season. Kendyll is on the Dalmations. She is doing a great job. I love to see the improvement that she has made from last year. She has gotten more aggressive. She occationally plays goalie (not her favorite spot). Kolby is on the Sharks. It is darling to see him play. There are many smiles watching 8 4-year-olds run around the field chasing a soccer ball. There have been several goals made into the wrong goal. Kolby has made a few goals (into the right one)and I love seeing him raise his arms high to celebrate his score.

HUT, HUT, HIKE!

Kasey is playing football for the Camarillo Cougars. He is doing a great job. It is hard work both physically and emotionally. He has "manned-up" and is improving every day. He plays on the offensive line and is the team's punter. They are down to 3 practices a week (from 4). We love watching him play. Lately Ken has been watching from the annoncer's box as he had been the offical time/score keeper. Ken takes Kasey to most of the games as Kendyll and Kolby have soccer games.

Last Sunday we met Veronika Duty at Leo Carillo Beach to have some family pictures taken. We had such a fun evening playing on the beach as the sun set. I anxiously awaited the slide show of the pictures to be posted. The following Sunday I got word the slide show was ready. OH MY GOSH! I am thrilled at the final product. Lake Shasta Vacation

This was our beautiful cove on Lake Shasta. We spent a week with The Becker 5 and the Stephenson 5. There were 6 adults and 9 kids.
The Shasta Dam was so cool. We took a walking tour on our last day. We weren't allowed to bring a camera so this is all you get. It was amazing to see the dam from the other side. We saw the energy turbines and walked inside the walls.

We went on a day cruise to discover what the lake had to offer. We packed a lunch and headed out for a few hours. It was beautiful.

Our houseboat had a jacuzzi on the roof. Here is Ken, Butch, Cassie, Natalie and Kate having a little soak.

Due to the huge fires in Northern California, the fire service parked the planes at the marina. This plane flew over our houseboat, very low, many times. It was unbelievable how low and slow it could fly. Kind of bitter sweet to enjoy the plane knowing it was there to fight terrible fires.

While on the trip we celebrated Russ' 40th birthday. We had a luau spaghetti dinner and sang to him. This is our group shot (thanks Michelle). We are holding a local newspaper so we can send it in as a vacation shot.

The not so happy ending to our story. On our way home, thankfully the last 7 miles (thanks God) our trailer springs broke. We had to have the boat towed to a trailer shop to be fixed. It couldn't have been a better place. We had just finished a 350 miles drive that included a trip up and down the Grapevine. We are so glad it didn't happen in the middle of nowhere or on the Grapevine amoungst the big semis. All is well and we had a Great trip.

We had a great time in Palm Springs. It was HOT... 117 each day. We spent a lot of time in the water. We visited Knott's Soak City and rode the water tube rides. Great Grandpa and Sylvia drove over for a visit. Grandpa gave Kasey a guitar and Kendyll a Ukelele. They are very nice and Kasey really wants to take lessons. Kasey met a friend from OC and they enjoyed swimming together. We stayed at the Marriott Desert Springs Villas. It was a very nice place.

Ken and I went with our great friends, Caryn and Russ on a weekend cruise to Ensenada. No, we didn't take the kids. Thankfully Grandma Barbara (my mom's best friend) stayed with them. We left on Friday and got home on Monday. It was the perfect amount of time to be away. We had such a GREAT time. It was very relaxing and wonderful not having to take care of anyone and the biggest care was which drink we would order. Caryn and Russ are a blast to travel with. They are very mellow and like to have fun. We ate a lot, had a lot of fun and tons of laughs. We are looking forward to the next get-away!

We have a new member of our family! His name is Elway and he is a yellow lab. We got him from a lady in Ventura and he is one of 7 lab puppies. His mom and dad are chocolate labs. He has the most beautiful eyes. They are a blue-green color. We hope they will stay that color but were told by a breeder that they will turn brown. Over all he is a great puppy. We are working on the appropriate areas to pee and trying to have him chew on toys not our hands and ears. Some days, or shall I say nights, I feel like I have an infant again. He is going to be so great for the kids. I'm looking forward to taking him to the park, but have to wait for 3 months so he is safe from parvo. If anyone has any great puppy tips please let me know.

A Day in the Life of Daddy

We went out to the Camarillo Airport to watch Ken and about 15 other motors practice cone pattern skills. It was neat to see all of them together manuvering 500 pound motorcycles in tight figure 8s, stopping in a fraction of a second from 60 mph and weaving through cones no farther than 2 feet apart. I took Kolby and Hunter to watch. Another added bonus was the planes passing closely overhead on approach. I'm very proud of Ken. He did a great job.

We took a train from Anaheim to San Juan Capistrano a few weekends ago. We ate luch at Ruby's and 1/2 of us went to the mission and the other 1/2 went to the petting zoo. Then we hopped on the train back to Anaheim. This trip was very special to Kasey as it was the very one he and Grandma took often. We went with Grandma Barbara (my Mom's best friend) and her daughter Lisa and her 3 kids who are the same ages as mine.

Mission San Juan Capistrano

The kids and I went down to San Juan Capistrano 2 weeks ago to visit the mission. Kasey is in 4th grade and is studying missions. I was so excited that he picked this one because it is the one I visited and reported on when I was in 4th grade. I didn't remember how beautiful it was, most 4th graders wouldn't. We woke up on Sunday morning to start our 3-day trip to Disneyland and this is what awaited us.

But no worries... The Mitchell's pressed on and set out to Disneyland in the rain. It was a great day with very light crowds. We kept bundled up and walked on to almost every ride.

Kristi and I met at the Apple Farm in San Luis Obispo for a sister weekend. Instead of exchanging Christmas presents we decided to spend some time together. We both arrived about 11:30 on Saturday. We headed downtown and started our shopping trek. We took a break for lunch at a college hangout Firestone Grill. The food was very good. We then continued shopping until 5:30. The weather was very cooperative. After checking into the hotel we went back downtown and had appetizers and a cocktail at a cute place called The Corner View Cafe. After that we went to the movies and saw 27 /Dresses. It was cute. We then went back to the hotel and climbed into our cozy beds and fell asleep. After a great breakfast we headed back home to our families. It was a wonderful weekend! I loved being able shop, eat and sleep without any timelines or kids to worry about. I'm looking forward to our next year's trip.

A Reminder of God's Promise

As I was driving home from San Luis, I approached Camarillo and saw a beautiful rainbow. It was a welcome sight after my rainy drive. When I see rainbows, which I have often these past few days, it reminds me of God's promise and it makes me happy. I am so thankful for all that He has given to me!

Here are the kids visiting their chickens at Grand's house. Grand is a close family friend who bought chicks a few months ago. She has graciously let each of my kids have a chicken of their own. Thankfully they will live with the others at Grand's house! We went to visit, clean and feed them yesterday. I never realized how big chicken's poop really is. The kids had a great time watching them run around the coop. We are looking forward to when they start laying eggs. How many city kids get to gather eggs?? Thanks Grand for sharing with us!

We went for a visit to Aptos, just south of Santa Cruz, the seekend before Christmas to celebrate with my sister and her family. We had such a great time. The weather was beautiful. We had a great dinner of tamales and enchiladas on Sat. night. We all then went to the beach on Sunday. The kids had so much fun playing in the water. We played football, ran in the water and the kids covered their bodies with sand. It was a wonderful visit.

We have this wonderful street in Camarillo that goes all out with decorations. This night Santa came for all of the kids to tell him what they would like. The home that Santa sits in front of had a garage filled with cookies and hot chocolate. It was a chilly night and we all had so much fun.

Universal Studios

We went to Universal Studios on 12-19. It was a good time. We were walking in and I was clicking away on the camera when all of a sudden my camera beeped and it read "memory full." This puzzled me as I have a big card and not many pictures. WELL... I left that big card in my computer so I really was out of memory as the camera only stores 10 pictures. So, here are a few from our trip and we will get more the next time we visit.

Another priceless Mommy moment. I was on the computer and Kolby was standing next to me saying "Hello, Hello???" I was so focused on what I was doing that it took several "Hellos" to get my attention. Much to my surprise this is what greeted my eyes. I cracked up for a long time. Kole has such a great sense of humor. He makes me laugh daily! I am so blessed.

Here is Kendyll in her holiday garb. She (along with all of us Mitchells) are excited for Christmas. We have our lights up, house decorated and will be getting our tree after church on Sunday. Both Kendyll and Kasey will be riding on our church's float in the Camarillo Christmas parade on Saturday. They are also performing in the children's chior program on Sunday. Our Soccer Season

Here are Kendyll and Kasey in their soccer uniforms. Kendyll played on the Pretty Penguins and Kasey on the Lazers. They both had a great season. Kasey's team made it to the playoffs and placed 4th place. Kendyll's team wasn't competitive so places weren't kept track of.

The kids had a great time trick-or-treating around the neighborhood. Kasey dressed as a football player, Kendyll was a black cat and Kolby a firefighter. We had lots of trick-or-treaters at our home. We all enjoy giving out candy and seeing the costumes.

A visit with Great-Grandpa

Great-Grandpa (91 years old!) came for a visit. He and his wife, Sylvia watched the kids as Ken and I went on a dinner date. It sure was nice having a free babysitter! The kids really enjoyed having him around. He sang "Rip Van Winkle" as the kids danced. I'm not sure who enjoyed it more. The next morning he came to watch Kasey play soccer. It was nice to have them for a visit.

The Last Suck!

Kolby gave up his suckies! He gathered them up and put them into a bag and we drove to PV Hospital. He asked for "one more suck" in the car before we went into the hospital. We rode the elevator up to the labor and delivery floor and gave the suckies to the new babies. The nurse was very encouraging and thanked Kolby for helping all of the new babies. He went to Target the next morning and picked out a puppy that barks and wags his tail as a prize for giving up the habit. He named it Skeleton. He has done wonderfully. He still askes every night to get his suckies back, but understands that the new babies really need them.

Kolby and Nash had a blast at Jolly Jumps as we celebrated Nash and Natalie's 7th B-day.

We had a great summer and have been so busy getting into the school year. We had a great trip to Hawaii for 2 weeks. We re-connected with our long time friends, The Pickards from Washington. We ate great food, played by the pool, swam below a waterfall and snorkeled on the beautiful beaches of Maui. Here are a few pix from that trip......

Kasey decided that it was time for the Summer cut. We took him to Supercuts and hoped for a decent stylist. He thinks it turned our great. I like it long, but understand that it is easier short for the summer.

We spent the weekend at Thornhill Broome camping on the beach. It was a beautiful week-end. The kids had such a great time playing in the sand and jumping off of the lifeguard tower. Kendyll met a little friend and she joined us for smores by the campfire.

40 is the NEW 30!

Kendyll, Kolby and I joined Ken and Kasey in California City during one of their dirt bike riding trips. This is Kendyll riding with Ken. It was fun to see where they go. Unfortunately, it was very windy and dirt and wind don't make a good couple. I was relieved that the snakes didn't show me their faces. Kolby enjoyed a long ride on a quad with Daddy. Even I went for a long ride!
